Hotel Restaurant De Noordooster is located in the heart of Delfzijl, directly opposite the train station. This hotel has over 60 comfortable rooms, each with a private bathroom with bath or shower, television, toilet, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms are equipped with air conditioning and/or a refrigerator to make your stay even more pleasant.
From 12:00 noon, you can enjoy a tasty lunch in our cozy restaurant, and from 5:30 p.m., an extensive dinner. At the bar, we serve Birra Moretti and Jupiler on tap, as well as a wide selection of specialty beers, wines, and other beverages.
From Hotel Boven Groningen to De Noordooster – a name steeped in history
The new name De Noordooster is a nod to the rich history of this location. At the time of the NOLS railway line (Noord-Ooster Locaal Spoorweg-Maatschappij), which connected Delfzijl with Groningen and the surrounding region since 1883, there was already a hotel here with the same name. At the time, the train station and the hotel were an important meeting place for travelers, traders, and sailors. With the reintroduction of this historic name, we honor the past and give it a contemporary interpretation.
A place with a literary touch
The Noordooster also has a special place in literature. In 1929, Belgian writer Georges Simenon moored in Delfzijl when his sailing ship sprung a leak. Inspired by the city and its harbor, he wrote Maigret in Holland, in which Inspector Maigret stays at the former Hotel Noordooster. Although the story is fictional, many locations in Delfzijl are real, such as the station, the harbor, the dike, and the Damsterdiep. In our lobby, you will find a display case with books and memorabilia in honor of this literary history.
